The Schoolmaster

The Schoolmaster is a delightful 18 minute black and white film about Crieff Primary School, its pupils, how some of them travel to school, and what they do during a typical school day.

The film was made in 1953, so any Crieff stalwarts aged 75 and over may see themselves in it and see parts of the town (including Commissioner Street) as they were, three-quarters of a century ago.

The Schoolmaster is the only fictional character and he’s played by Walter Carr (1925-1998) of Para Handy fame. The narrator is another well-kent Scottish name – Gordon Jackson. (1923-1990) best known for his role as the  butler Angus Hudson in Upstairs, Downstairs.
